The Challenge

In the remote village of Shungnak, Alaska, the reliance on a diesel-based power plant system posed multiple challenges. High fuel costs of $8.25+ per gallon, constant generator noise, and exhaust fumes hindered the community's quality of life. The extreme weather conditions, along with the need to transport fuel by plane or boat, made power generation costly and unreliable.

Energy Solution

Blue Planet Energy, in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Northwest Arctic Borough, and other partners introduced a solar-plus-storage microgrid system to revolutionize the energy landscape in Shungnak. This solution aimed to provide a sustainable and resilient future for the community.
