Energy storage enables community to experience life without diesel for first time and save over $200,000 a year on fuel expenses

Above the Arctic Circle, in the remote village of Shungnak, Alaska, residents have long relied on a diesel-based power plant system. With $8.25+ a gallon fuel costs and the constant hum and exhaust smell of generators, a new solar-plus-storage microgrid offers a promising, energy resilient future.

After Hurricane Maria, Blue Planet Energy was there on the ground in Puerto Rico, enabling greater energy resilience through microgrid projects at community sites like water stations, hospitals and childrens’ shelters, even investing in local workforce development. Now, Blue Planet Energy has joined forces with Microsoft Airband, Por Los Nuestros, and others, to integrate resilient internet connectivity into rural communities.

Expanding his position as Blue Planet Energy’s Chairman of the Board, Rogers will lead Blue Planet Energy into its next chapter of growth as former CEO Christopher Johnson departs to pursue new opportunities. Rogers’ entrepreneurial enthusiasm to build companies into industry leaders – as demonstrated by his career-long successes in the gaming industry – will launch Blue Planet Energy into a new era of industry leadership.

With over 250 installation partners and more than 35 MW hours installed globally, Blue Planet Energy’s collective expertise has helped us identify the common challenges both installers and end users face with microgrid systems. We have also learned the important role of system monitoring in overcoming these hurdles as well as the promising benefits it can deliver.

For the indigenous communities of North and South Dakota, coming together for multi-day ceremonies is an honored tradition carried out generation to generation. With a battery storage donation from Blue Planet Energy, these communities were able to swap their reliance on gas-powered generators for a cleaner, more sustainable alternative.
