Blue Planet Energy Responds to California Energy Crisis with Fire-Safe Lithium-Ion Battery Incentive
Blue Planet Energy has responded to California’s energy crisis, spurred by recent wildfires and Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) events, with a sales incentive for battery backup systems for home and business owners. Fire-safe Blue Ion 2.0 batteries from Blue Planet Energy enable power from different generation sources, like solar energy or generators, to be safely stored for use during utility grid disruptions, at night, or for completely grid-independent systems. The Blue Ion incentive program is designed to offer a price break for new energy storage systems purchased by February 15, 2020, as well as assistance connecting with a local certified installer for Californians seeking to hedge against the costs of power loss.“The recent power shutoffs are California’s hurricane,” said Blue Planet Energy VP of Business Development Gregg Murphy. “And just like hurricanes, losing power puts undue stress on our communities’ critical infrastructure and public safety. With PG&E stating that PSPS events could continue for the next decade, now is the time for energy independence and for Californians to focus on resilience solutions for homes, businesses, and in the community at large.”

Hawaii-based Blue Planet Energy is a leader in bringing power back to communities devastated by natural disasters. It was among the first to respond after the category 5 Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico. Blue Ion technology has been deployed at community water pumps, banks, medical facilities, and in over 100 emergency shelters at schools across Puerto Rico through its work with global non-governmental organizations (NGOs) like the American Red Cross and Water Mission. With a focus on resilience and expanding the use of renewables, Blue Planet Energy founder and CEO Henk Rogers of video game Tetris fame innovated the Blue Ion line of energy storage solutions in 2014. At the core of Blue Ion technology is the industry’s safest lithium ferrous phosphate (LFP) cell chemistry and design, which has been approved to meet the stringent UL test methods for battery safety. A unique system architecture, quality build of components, and an advanced Battery Management Unit (BMU) integrate additional safety and performance layers into the energy storage system with both hardware and software safeguards. To find more information about the Blue Ion incentive program for homes and businesses and to find a local dealer, visit: https://info.blueplanetenergy.com/rebate.
